Getting My File Ready
Expected File Format
Our Excel to HTML importer expects your .xlsx file to be formatted cleanly in order to import correctly.
The following 4 rules must be satisfied:
- Your table is the only thing on the sheet being imported
- Table headers are in the top row, and each column has a header
- There are no gaps in your table
- Each column contains the same data type throughout the table
Complex Files
If you have an existing file with a table on a complex sheet which doesn’t satisfy the requirements, you can always copy the table by value over to a new empty sheet, and specify that sheet name in the upload dialogue. You can read more about how exactly to do that in our blog post: Excel to HTML: How to Format Your Excel File.
Column Data Type
The importer will infer the data type of each column from the type in the Excel file. You can always try to change the data type in the next section if there’s a mistake, but it’s recommended to ensure your columns are the type they should be at import. For example, set your numerical columns to be numerical in Excel rather than plain text.
Upload
Once your file is ready, go to: Convert Excel To Html Tables and click the ‘Upload’ button to attach your file. Specify the sheet name if it isn’t the first sheet, then click ‘Create Table’.
